This policy explains how Building 28 handles information when you use the Syng applications or this website, getsyng.com.
Who we are
Building 28 is a registered assumed name of Bytecraft, LLC, a Michigan limited liability company. Building 28 publishes Syng and operates this website. In this policy, “we,” “us,” and “our” refer to Building 28 and Bytecraft, LLC.
The Syng website
getsyng.com does not add advertising or analytics trackers. It uses session storage in your browser only to remember whether the entrance animation has played. Our hosting infrastructure may process ordinary request information, such as an IP address, request time, requested URL, user agent, and response status, in routine server logs needed to deliver and protect the site.
App telemetry
The Syng app includes telemetry that is enabled by default and can be changed in the app’s Telemetry settings. Telemetry events can include:
- a persistent, randomly generated device ID and a separate installation ID used to authorize telemetry submissions;
- event timestamps, the Syng version, platform, feature events, settings changes, and the names of app screens visited;
- the length of a search term, but not the search text itself; and
- error details, including messages and stack information, plus optional device context such as processor architecture, operating-system version, and timezone.
The telemetry backend adds the request IP address to accepted events. Syng does not intentionally transmit bookmarks, vocabulary lists, imported documents, document contents, notes, or raw searches as telemetry.
Email and support communications
If you email us or submit a support request, we receive the information you choose to provide, such as your email address, message, and any attachments. We use it to respond, investigate the request, maintain appropriate business records, and protect Syng and its users. Our email and hosting providers may process those communications on our behalf.
Please do not send sensitive documents, credentials, vocabulary notes, or other private content unless it is necessary for your request. We retain correspondence only as long as reasonably needed for these purposes and applicable legal obligations.
Other network activity
Update checks
Supported non-store desktop builds may contact Syng’s update service to check for a newer version. The request identifies the update channel, current app version, platform, and architecture; ordinary network handling also exposes the request IP address. If you choose to install an update, the release files are downloaded from GitHub.
Webpage imports
When you ask Syng to import a webpage, the app connects directly to the URL you supplied and may request resources needed to process that page. The destination site and its providers receive the information ordinarily sent with a web request, including your IP address. Building 28 does not proxy or receive the imported page contents through this feature.
Downloads and app stores
Downloads from GitHub are processed by GitHub under its own privacy terms. If you obtain Syng through an app store, the store operator processes your account, download, transaction, and diagnostic information under its own policies. That app-store processing is separate from Syng telemetry.
How we use and share telemetry
We use telemetry for diagnostics, compatibility analysis, security, and product improvement. We do not sell it, use it for advertising, combine it with third-party data, or share it with data brokers.
Amazon Web Services (AWS) processes telemetry and related service data as our infrastructure provider. This processing occurs in the United States. We may also disclose information when required by applicable law or when reasonably necessary to protect Syng, its users, or our legal rights.
Your telemetry controls
The Telemetry settings provide a global Enable Telemetry control and separate controls for Event Tracking, Screen Views, Error Reporting, and Device Context. You can opt out in part or in full at any time and inspect recent queued event payloads in the app.
A telemetry preference-change event is recorded when you change a global or category setting, including when you opt out. Events already queued or transmitted may remain after an opt-out, but new events disabled by that preference will not be intentionally collected.
Retention and deletion
Telemetry stored on our servers is retained for no more than 395 days. An installation token normally remains valid for approximately 180 days. The local telemetry queue is bounded to 500 events; when it reaches that limit, the oldest events are removed as newer events are added.
You may request deletion by emailing hello@bytecraft.xyz. Include your anonymous device ID so we can locate associated records. We will fulfill requests for records we can identify, subject to applicable legal requirements and permitted exceptions. Because Syng does not require an account and the identifiers are anonymous, we may be unable to locate data without that ID.
Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational safeguards designed to protect the information we process. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Children’s privacy
Syng is a general-audience learning tool and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information, please contact us so we can investigate and take appropriate action.
Future features and policy changes
This policy is limited to current behavior. Accounts, synchronization, and payments are not covered as active data-collection features. Before any of those features begins collecting additional data, we will update this policy and the applicable App Store privacy disclosures.
We may revise this policy as Syng or legal requirements change. We will publish the revised policy here and update the date above. Material changes will be communicated in a manner appropriate to the change.
